The Maldives are rated as a Role Model, because of a declared intention to become climate-neutral by 2020. The Maldives intend to apply for funding but state that their pledge is voluntary unconditional to external support.
The Maldives have pledged to become climate-neutral by 2020. The target was proposed in September 2009 and submitted to the Copenhagen Accord on 29 January 2010. A detailed plan on how to achieve this goal has yet to be published.

The Maldives have provided a national greenhouse gas inventory for 1994 only. Data for 2009 and for baseline projections until 2020 is taken from the Maldives Carbon Audit 2010.
