Virtual side event
The Climate Action Tracker held a virtual side event at Climate Week NYC 2022 on Wednesday, September 21 entitled: “What is good target design and how do countries compare?”
What is a good target design and how do countries compare?
The Climate Action Tracker tracks government climate action in around 40 countries and measures it against the 1.5°C Paris Agreement limit. To evaluate government net zero targets, we have identified ten key elements to assess their scope, architecture, and transparency.
In this event, we presented our evaluation of governments’ net zero target design and outlined what needs to happen between now and COP27.
Bill Hare started by presenting the state of climate action post-Glasgow, Aman Majid then explored the state of net zero targets, Frederic Hans outlined what is good net zero target design and how countries compare, while Hanna Fekete highlighted what the Climate Action Tracker expects ahead of COP27. Hanna and Bill concluded with how corporate net zero targets are not stacking up. The event was moderated by Claire Stockwell.
